As you may already know by now, Instagram is a social media website which lets its users edit, filter and share pictures and video to many other people over the Internet. It also allows users to simultaneously share these over Twitter, Facebook, Flickr and Tumblr.
Instagram Keeps Growing
According to Statista.com, Instagram had reached 800 million monthly active users, up from 600 million in December 2016. The app is one of the most popular social networks worldwide. In 2015, there were approximately more than 77.6 million active Instagram users in the United States. This figure is projected to surpass 111 million in 2019. Instagram is most popular with teens and young Millennials – this holds true in the United States where more than half of Instagram’s user base is between 18 and 29 years old. Globally speaking, 41 percent of users are 24 years of age or younger. Instagram is the preferred social network of teens in the United States, beating out Twitter and Facebook.
Due to the apps visual nature and high user engagement rate, Instagram is also a valuable social media marketing tool. As of March 2016, 98 percent of fashion brands had an Instagram profile. As of December 2016, average number of image brand posts on Instagram was 27.9 posts per month.
Pictures and Words
Unlike Twitter, Instagram allows you to post more characters in each post. This allows you to market your product and services using more creativity and expression in your personal word style and usage.
In order to have maximize engagement on your Instagram posts, it’s good to stick to around 120-125 characters in your captions. While the focus of your posts will be the photos and videos, captions provide context and can compel people to engage with you. So you want to do everything you can to make your captions as great as possible.
Examples of Good Marketing on Instagram
Businesses have been looking to Instagram to sell their brands, particularly because pictures (and videos) paint a thousand (and more) words, and our brains think better in pictures. These major businesses include G.E., Adidas, Virgin America, American Express, Intel and Red Bull, among many others.
Intel, for example, promoted their processors via Instagram with pictures of the latest computer models that utilize them. More than just posting pictures on Instagram, they post imaginative pictures that make their usual “boring” products come to life with delight.
The Instagram account of Virgin America is less creatively styled than Intel. During one campaign they used photos of the very popular Pomeranian puppy Boo in promoting their first class flights as dog-friendly, but perfectly conveying the message through pictures and few words.
American Express promoted its financial services on Instagram, by posting photos of the many important events they’ve sponsored as well as by using #hashtags in promoting their products’ image as those that are vital for contemporary living.
Promoting Brand Loyalty
Instagram gives you the unique ability to draw in more prospects and leads by featuring pictures that show how your products are created and packaged or how your services are produced. The point of doing this is to make your followers more familiar with your brand and as they become so, they become more loyal to your company and are more likely to bring in further leads and customers.
